Çeşme and Alaçatı sit at the western end of the peninsula beyond İzmir, close enough to each other that visitors often treat them as one destination, though they are quite different in character.
A stone-built village that became a design destination: narrow streets, restored houses, boutique hotels and a well-known windsurfing bay just outside town. It fills up in high summer and the centre is largely pedestrian, which is worth knowing when you arrive with luggage.
Larger and more varied, with a marina, a castle, thermal springs and a wide range of hotels. It is also the ferry port for Chios, which brings a steady flow of passengers with fixed departure times.
The motorway from İzmir airport is fast, but the peninsula exit backs up badly on summer weekends, particularly on Friday evenings and Sunday returns. If you have a ferry or a dinner reservation, build in more time than the map suggests.
